The American Public Works Association hosts National Public Works Week each year to promote the importance of public works services. This year, National Public Works Week is May 19-25, 2019 and the theme, "It Starts Here," celebrates the many facets of modern civilization that develop due to public works professionals across North America. Infrastructure, innovation, mobility, public safety, and healthy communities are all things that start with public works. The quality of life of residents all start with public works.

Concord Mayor, Jim Bouley, signed a proclamation to declare May 19-25, 2019 as this year’s Public Works Week for Concord in recognition of the contributions of public works employees. Concord General Services provides public works services for the Concord community, including trash and recycling collection, award-winning drinking water, wastewater processing, public property maintenance, servicing City equipment and vehicles, road maintenance, snow plowing, and maintenance of City’s water distribution and sewer collection systems. These services provide resources to the Concord community that we have grown accustomed to having every day.

Help Concord General Services fight hunger during National Public Works Week by donating non-perishable food items. Most needed items include pasta, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, rice, and canned goods (soup, vegetables, fruit, gravy, tomato sauce, tuna, etc.). Items can be dropped off at 311 North State Street during the week, at the Concord Public Works Celebration, or at Market Basket on Friday, May 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All donations will benefit the Friendly Kitchen in Concord.
National Public Works Week is a great opportunity for the community to get involved to learn more about their local public works department. We hope you will join us in celebrating the importance of public works services.
