Please note that not all of the trails in the trail guide are owned and maintained by the City. Several trails are owned and maintained by the State of New Hampshire or a private entity. For example, the State maintains the lot access to White Farm cross-country ski trails, but does not maintain the Sewalls Falls recreation area lot. The Audubon Society and Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests (SPNHF) lots are maintained.

Other Trails in Concord

Concord- Lake Sunapee Rail Trail        Northern Rail Trail

The leaves that fall onto the trails from the trees need to remain. Please refrain from any and all removal of the leaves, including raking and leaf blowing. The trails and the environment thank you for leaving the leaves in situ.

Regulations for Trails

The following uses are prohibited on City lands and trails, per City Ordinance:

  • Motorized wheeled vehicles
  • Camping
  • Fires
  • Littering (including failing to pick up after your pet)

Use of Trails in General

The City trails are maintained by many volunteers. We appreciate your cooperation to help keep the trails in excellent shape! If you would like to help out by cleaning up trash at the trail heads, check out the City's Blue Bag program.

Please note the following guidelines to ensure that the trails remain in their natural state and open to the public:

  • Carry out what you carry in (including dog poop bags)!
  • Please stay on the marked trails.
  • Please do not disturb the plants and wildlife.
  • Please respect the private property that surrounds the trails.
  • Please follow our Trail Manners for You and Your Dog

Make sure you are properly equipped and prepared for country hiking. Some of our trails are long, rough, or steep and are not suited for novice hikers or cross-country skiers. Be sure to read the trail descriptions and view the topographic contours of the maps.

2024 Annual Report

Use of Trails in Mud Season

As the snow and ice melt, the trails are getting muddy. Please be prepared and hike responsibly.

Be sure to stay on the trail if it is muddy or wet. Hike through it, not around it. If you walk around the mud the trail will widen and become even muddier in the future. Mud is part of the hiking challenge. Expect it. Wear waterproof boots and gaiters to protect your feet from mud and water. Please follow muddy-trail etiquette found by clicking here.

The following trails tend to be drier:

  • Jim Hill Riverwalk & Lehtinen Park Trail (Map 2)
  • Sewalls Falls Trails (Map 10)
  • Morono Park Trail (Map 11)
  • East Concord Heritage Trail (Locke Road - Map 20)
  • Broken Ground (Map 30)

April 4, 2026: 10 AM, Morono Trails Skunk Cabbage Hike led by Peter.  Hiking time: about 90 minutes round trip; Distance: 3+ miles round trip; Level of Difficulty: easy, mostly flat surface.

Directions:

From central Concord, take N State St to Fisherville Rd to Sewalls Falls Road and turn right onto Second Street (between Beaver Meadow School and Beaver Meadow Golf Course). Park in the parking lot on the left, under the power lines, just before the railroad tracks. The Morono Park trailhead is just across the street.

Google Maps – Search for destination “62 2nd St, Concord NH.” This is the last house on 2nd St, on the right side of the street. The parking area is about 300 feet beyond it, on the left, under the power lines, and the trailhead is opposite, on the right side of the street.
