Hiking During Hunting Season

Hunting Season Starts September 1st

City of Concord Conservation lands are managed as multi-use land, which means hunting is allowed on most properties. See the link for safety tips for hiking during hunting season.

Hunters generally stay away from heavily used trails because noise and foot traffic are not ideal. Most hunting takes place during dusk or dawn, it is best to avoid those times for hiking. However, if you do not feel comfortable hiking in areas where hunting is allowed, below is a list of trails where hunting is prohibited:

  • Map 5 - Contoocook River Park
  • Map 7 - Spears Park
  • Map 21 - Winant Park
  • Map 24 - Silk Farm Audubon Center & Wildlife Sanctuary Trails
  • Map 25 - Swope Park Trail only (not including the Carter Hill & WEFT connector trails)
  • Map 31 - Swope to Winant Connector Trail
Dates to know:

Bear Season: September 1 - November 30
Waterfowl Season: September - January (dates vary, see website below)
Deer Season:
  • Archery: September 15 - December 15
  • Muzzleloader: October 30 - November 9
  • Firearms: November 10 - December 5
