Downtown Services

Downtown Services Team

Our Downtown Services Team was established by the City of Concord to preserve the investments of the Concord Main Street Project that was completed in the fall of 2016. Duties include maintaining hardscapes, street sweeping, irrigation systems, planters, trash receptacles, and snow removal on sidewalks and hardscapes in the Main Street Project area. In an effort to increase maintenance downtown, our team has implemented a new work schedule as of July 30, 2018 to include weekends. Work hours are now 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily, with the exception of holidays. This new schedule provides increased coverage for routine tasks, in addition to the added responsibilities of custodial services in the parking garages and maintenance of the public squares (previously maintained by our Public Properties Division). Snow removal in the parking garages and in the squares will still be completed by a contractor. This change allows our team to provide better service to the downtown area to keep areas safe, clean, and beautiful for the community to enjoy.

Main Street Sidewalk Pressure Washing

Starting Tuesday, September 4th, a contractor will be pressure washing the sidewalks on Main Street from Centre Street to Concord Street. This work will occur during the overnight hours of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. to minimize disruptions to the general public and downtown merchants. Work is expected to take three nights to complete. Crews will start on the north west side of Main Street at Centre Street and work southerly on the west side towards Concord Street. Work will then continue to the east side and head north to Loudon Road. The Downtown Services Team will be meeting with downtown businesses to notify them of this upcoming work and to request for all outdoor sidewalk furniture to be removed by 10:00 p.m. each night to clear the sidewalks for the scheduled pressure washing. Business owners may return the furniture the next morning for the day, but should continue to remove the furniture each night until the pressure washing has been completed for their area. The Downtown Services Team thanks the downtown merchants for their cooperation as the City continues to sustain a clean, safe, and well-maintained downtown area for the community to enjoy.
